Katie is a Nashville based singer and songwriter from Ann Arbor, MI. Surrounded by melodies played on her grandfather's Steinway and harmonies sung by her mom, Katie found a love for song at a very young age. Inspired by artists such as Sara Bareilles, Ben Folds, and Elton John, she began writing music in high school, combining raw, vulnerable lyricism with catchy melodies and pop-piano sounds.
In collaboration with producer Dave Douglas of Danger House Studios and Relient K, Katie brought her first project, “Happimess,” to life in 2013. Proving to be just the beginning of her songwriting career, the debut EP was followed by the full length album, "Loose Ends.” With a full band and a full house, the debut album was released at the Indianapolis Arts Garden as the first show of it's kind to be held in the space. Katie’s collection of heartfelt tunes have provided opportunities for shows across the country with artists such as Mason Jennings, Will Dailey, and Ben Folds, and earned her songwriting showcases at reputable venues such as “The Ark,” in Ann Arbor, The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN, and festivals such as “Mile of Music,” in Appleton, WI. In 2018, Katie released her EP, "The Landing," chronicling her struggle with being pulled between making music and a more traditional career. Produced by Jake Rye of Social Recording Company and Sanctus Real, the title track was recognized amongst 19,000 submissions as the first place winner in the Country Category of the International Songwriting Competition of 2018.
As part of the winnings for this accomplishment, Katie was awarded a recording package at The Tracking Room Studio in Nashville, TN. After a full day of recording with grammy winning recording engineer Matt Leigh, Katie had a new set of songs to share: “The Tracking Room Sessions.” Highlighting "soaring melodies," and "songs of heartbreak and hope," as reviewed by the Stratton Setlist, this project eventually was the catalyst for moving to Nashville, TN to further pursue her career goals as a songwriter in 2019.
After the move to Tennessee, Katie spent many weeks and months in her Nashville apartment writing songs for her latest project, Limitless, which was released in early 2022. The full length album tells stories of heartbreak and healing, with themes taken directly from her own battle with mental health, heartbreak and loss, driving across the continent to find herself again, to eventually end up in music city. The record has received recognition from Music Mecca for “Guard Down,” as one of the top 10 pop releases of 2021, with “Gravity,” earning a top finalist placement in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. Her song, “One Before the One,” was recognized as a semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only songwriting competition for 2021, and several of the songs on the record landed Katie on the, “Ones to Watch,” lists with the Nashville Songwriting Association when submitted for feedback during the writing process.
After touring throughout the midwest, Katie released a followup single, Abstract Art, produced with Collin Pastore and Jake Finch (Lucy Dacus, Boygenius), & was described by Gifted Balance Records as a "pop track that is full of beautifully vibrant energy and dynamic vibes that will leave you utterly speechless." As a celebration of a decade of artistry in the music industry, Katie released a live piano-vocal performance arrangement of Patty Griffin’s, “Rain,” and a rewrite of one of her first ever releases, “Dead of Winter,” as a reflection of perseverance in an ever changing music industry. Later that year, the promising songwriter hit a career milestone by auditioning & eventually playing a coveted slot at the Sunday Songwriters Night at the one and only Bluebird Cafe. She continues to write & perform in Nashville, TN, both as a solo writer and with her Americana trio, “The Rebel Eves.” While her journey has been a decade in the making, her story it seems, is just beginning.
